Eve

The first woman

The first feminist

The first good girl turned bad

By thirsting after knowledge

Eating the fruit

Giving us the wisdom

We need to survive

In a world filled with men

Telling us what to do.

You found

The fruit that gave

The knowledge of good and evil

You ate

The fruit for knowledge.

The first example

Of standing up

To men hiding information from women,

“Protecting” us from knowing–

From our Knowing

Our Inner Wisdom.

But you knew all along

We didn’t need protection,

We needed knowledge.

You gave

The knowledge of good and evil

Of Ourselves

Of our Inner Voice

Of our Intuition

You gave us god

Within ourselves

To know and to trust

What we see and feel

To know what is good

To know we are good

To know we are not evil

If we stop and listen

To ourselves.

You gave us

Our wisdom

Our knowing

The desire to keep thirsting

Forever

After knowledge.

I’m done playing Mary

The model of perfect love and obedience

Playing into man’s game

She’s not my saint.

I’d like to be Eve.

Because Eve–

Eve is the model of perfect love—

Love for Self

And knowledge over obedience

That’s the woman I will honor

That’s the woman I will pray to

By praying to myself

By listening to my voice

By acknowledging that Eve gave me this knowledge

Eve knew my inner knowing all along

She didn’t ask for obedience to man

She asked for honoring Self

And for that

I will always hold Eve in a place of honor

You found

You ate

You gave

Knowledge of good and evil

To all women.
